Arsenal v Southampton The Gunners go into this weekend's game on the back three clean sheets and a total of seven points from three games played. Southampton, on the other hand, are pointless and have allowed their opponents more shots on target (19) than any other team this season. At odds of 1.4 in the Match Odds market Arsenal look slightly over-priced and are worth a back. While the 2.6 available on Under 2.5 goals also looks a solid punt if Arsene Wenger's main can maintain their defensive frugality. Aston Villa v Swansea Aston Villa host Swansea this Saturday looking to end a run of 13 Premier League games without a win. Despite Paul Lambert's appointment in the summer The Villans have picked up where they left off last season under Alex McLeish and they ...

After Mario Balotelli's red card yesterday, and Wayne Rooney's extended run without a yellow card, Ralph Ellis makes a case for discipline being a vital factor in this season's title race. To buy one brilliant but truculent striker might be considered bad luck; To get two borders on carelessness; To have signed three in the space of as many years means somebody at Manchester City simply doesn't learn his lessons. Blame Mario Balotelli, as some have done this morning, for losing the Premier League title if you like. His red card in the final moments of the 1-0 defeat at Arsenal yesterday that left Manchester United with an eight point advantage at the top of the table was after all pretty damn stupid. But has mad Mario really been any worse an influence on City's...

Tottenham's deflating end to the season continued on Saturday evening when the Lilywhites were unable to overcome Blackpool at White Hart Lane. The draw all but denies Spurs the chance of finishing fourth with Manchester City holding a six point lead, despite losing at Everton on Saturday afternoon. This should have been a Champions League qualification shootout but it will simply boil down to pride. Spurs will be without Player of the Year Gareth Bale after he suffered an ankle injury against Blackpool. Perhaps of more significance to Spurs are doubts surrounding the fitness of Luka Modric and Peter Crouch. The former is the heartbeat of the team, the latter the hero when Spurs famously beat City in the fixture last year. Carlos Tevez could return for City but Roberto Mancini can ...

Not everybody is looking forward to spring... Andrew Clarke assesses the relegation markets and explains why a close look at the fixtures lists should inform your betting on battle to avoid the drop. One of the most interesting markets in this most unpredictable of Premier League seasons has to be that of relegation. Traditionally the number of points needed to avoid the drop has been set at 40 but no club has needed that many since 2002/3 when West Ham went down with 42. But the signs are that this term the tally will be on the up again, mainly because no side is already doomed. No side in the bottom half of the table is safe yet, but at this time of year momentum is key so recent form needs to be looked at. By that rationale Fulham and Aston Villa in 12th and 15th respectively...

Roberto Mancini claims to remain unaffected by Manchester City's growing status as one of the most disliked clubs in the country. His assertion is that the widespread opprobrium is born of envy and that, "everyone is so afraid because City in the next two years will be one of the top teams in Europe and it will be a problem for the other teams". Mancini should probably focus more on ensuring he does actually qualify for the Champions League next season - the minimum requirement for someone who has spent over £150m in his 14 months in charge - before he starts talking in such lofty tones, but while he insisted on Friday that the criticism of his side was "not important to me," he did nonetheless suggest that a nerve had been struck when he said that City's treatment has been "unfair"....

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce bemoaned the tough Christmas and New Year schedule when a string of his top players picked up injuries over the festive period - and chief among his concerns must be the back injury that has ruled out skipper Lee Cattermole for at least a month. How Sunderland cope without the combative Cattermole will be crucial to their prospects of continuing their good form in the second half of the season. There are signs that he will be sorely missed, which could enable punters to cash in both during his absence and when he returns. A strong defence has been central to Sunderland's improvement this season, with Bruce's men joint-leaders for Premier League clean sheets with 10, level pegging with Manchester City. That is all the more admirable because Bruce has ...

This season has been a right old rollercoaster ride for Manchester City backers. Matched as low as 5.9 on the eve of the start of the season, they drifted out to 40.0 at one stage but are now right back in business according to the market, trading at 9.0. If anyone can explain to me why they're almost twice the price Chelsea are (even if Carlo Ancelotti's side won their two games in hand they'd still be a point behind) I'd love to hear their explanation by the way, but my advice to anyone who hasn't yet had a bet on the Premier League winner market is to take a punt on Roberto Mancini's side. The Italian has a really good chance of guiding this motley crew to Premier League glory but....only if he follow these five golden rules. 1) Get rid of everyone who doesn't want to be there...

What a great season this is turning out to be for Manchester United. They remain unbeaten, one point off the top with games in hand and are happily looking on while their title rivals do their level best to self-implode. First there is Chelsea, Super Chelsea. The mighty Blues, who swept all before them on the way to the double last season and steamrollered the first five matches of this campaign before shooting themselves in the foot by sacking Ray Wilkins, isolating Carlo Ancelotti and embarking on a six-match winless run that has left the Blues as long as 3.1 to defend their title. Then there is Arsenal, sexy Arsenal. The Gunners may be sitting pretty at the top of the pile but, having lost four times already this season - including home reverses to West Brom and Newcastle...
